Obituary:

The following obituary appeared in the Troy, Albany and Schenecttady, NY Newspapers

Mrs. Ada Warren Giering, 92, a resident of New York's Capital District for most of her life and a former teacher in the Shenendehowa School District died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at Westvue, Homestead Village, Lancaster, Pa. She had been being treated for breast cancer for more than three years, according to a family spokesman.

Mrs. Giering, known to family and friends as "AG," moved to Lancaster in 1995 from Clifton Park, N.Y., where she had lived at Friars Gate, Twin Lakes.

She was married to Percival L. Giering in (Oct. 13) 1929 and was a homemaker, living in Michigan, Massachusetts and the New York City area; and then for many years on a farm in Averill Park, N.Y. (A few miles southeast of Troy)

After the death of her husband in 1962, she completed college and then was a junior high mathematics teacher for 15 years in the Shenendehowa Central School District. She retired from teaching in 1979.

Born (Oct. 16, 1907) in Lansingburgh, N.Y. (now part of Troy) she was the daughter of the late George W. Simmons, a Civil War veteran, and Katharine Lund Simmons, an immigrant from Denmark. As a child she lived in the old Lansing residence on 116th St., where her mother had an antique shop.

She was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and the State University of New York at Albany, from which she also received a masters degree. An avid bridge player, she was a member and senior life master of the American Contract Bridge League.

She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the Edison Club of Rexford, N.Y., a founding member of the Patroon Dog Training Club of Troy, and a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Lansingburgh. During World War II she served as a Red Cross volunteer in Little Neck, N.Y.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Warren P., married to Kathleen Giering of Boston; a daughter, Katharine G., married to Frederick S. Bush of Lancaster; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by a stepbrother, John H. Green Jr.of Albany.
